Teach your girlfriend to program…
Well, my girlfriend, being the curious sort, wants to know what exactly it means when I am gazing into my computer in a trance and mutter, “sorry programming.” Even if she doesn’t become an amazing coder, knowing what it involves and why it results in a trance-like stupor has the potential to facilitate the keeping of a good relationship.
Anyway, I’ve read some of Allen Downey’s How to Think Like a (Python) Programmer and I am particularly fond of Python, so I thought I’d have her start there. Then I found Chris Pine’s Learn to Program, which seems like a winner, even with it’s Ruby focus (not knocking Ruby, since I haven’t had the pleasure to make myself acquainted with it yet). Then there is the online tutorial called Learning to Program by Alan Gould.
